Paw-some Nutrition

Just like a gourmet chef, you have the power to create the perfect recipe for pet longevity. So, put on your aprons, sharpen those culinary skills, and let’s serve up a feast of knowledge!

Purr-fect Portions: Size Matters Even for Treat Lovers

When it comes to feeding our pets, portion control is the name of the game. We all know how hard it is to resist those pleading eyes when treats are involved! But fear not, for a balance can be struck. With a dash of moderation and a sprinkle of measuring cups, we can indulge our pets without tipping the scales toward unhealthy territory. In recent studies, it was shown that 25% restriction in food intake increased the median life span and delayed the onset of signs of chronic disease in these dogs.

The Quality Quandary: Ingredients That Make a Difference

Imagine a world where pets could read ingredient labels and choose their meals. Oh, the debates they’d have! As their trusty culinary companions, it’s up to us to make informed decisions.

Every pet owner wants to feed the best food they can afford. The hard part is understanding what makes food good or bad.

Cheap foods have inferior ingredients, poor quality control, and may contain excesses or deficiencies of various nutrients. So, most of you already get this and are not feeding the least expensive food you can find. The problem is more the opposite.

Unfortunately, many expensive pet store diets actually provide very poor nutrition, despite their fancy marketing. Over a dozen brands have been linked to heart failure in dogs. Grain-free diets are especially problematic.

The best dog food for your dog is ultimately up to you to decide. As an owner, you are the one who sees your dog on a regular basis. If your dog produces firm, healthy stool, is active and fit, and has a healthy appetite, then your dog food is probably working just fine.

Thus, seek out high-quality pet food that lists real meat, whole grains, and nutrient-rich ingredients as the main players. It’s like giving your pet a VIP ticket to a gourmet dining experience!

The food review site might help to make the right decision in terms of both the SAFETY and QUALITY of the ingredients your dog relies on.

Nutritional Nibbles: The Power of a Balanced Diet

Variety is the spice of life, even for our furry friends! Just like humans, pets thrive on a well-balanced diet that covers all nutritional bases. Think proteins, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals—ingredients that keep tails wagging and purrs rumbling. Let’s mix it up with different protein sources and add a pinch of vegetables for that extra nutritional punch.

Choosing the best food for your dog from hundreds of brands seems like an impossible task, especially when you turn the bag of food over and notice the food label. Would it be nice to understand at least some of it?

Many experts recommend rotating diets every 2-6 months if you are feeding commercial dog food. This typically means changing to a new food company. Offering a variety of formulas within that company can also benefit your pet. Feeding the same food all the time can become boring for your dog. It is also believed that this can lead to allergies and other diseases. And remember that the needs of individual dogs can vary.

If you want to check your pet’s food, there are a number of companies that provide corresponding services:

These companies can test your pet’s food in terms of nutrition, additives, toxins, and many more.

The Hydration Station: Sipping for the Fountain of Youth

Water, nature’s magical elixir! Our pets rely on it as much as we do. Adequate hydration keeps their organs functioning smoothly, their coats glossy, and their energy levels high. So, let’s encourage their sipping habits by keeping their water bowls fresh and easily accessible. After all, a hydrated pet is a pet ready to tackle life’s adventures with gusto!

Fussy Eaters Unleashed: A Journey to Discover Their Palate

Some pets are quite the connoisseurs, turning their noses up at certain foods. Experimenting with different textures, flavors, and even homemade recipes, however, can satisfy even the most discerning pet palates.

By the way, the statistical study showed that dogs fed with industrially processed food live an average of 10.4 years, while dogs fed with homemade food can reach an average age of 13.1 years.

When feeding homemade diets, a variety of foods should be offered. However, it is always important to use recipes for complete and balanced dog food. We are listing some of them below.

Just like us, our pets are what they eat! A well-balanced and nutritious diet is the foundation of a long and healthy life. Opt for high-quality pet food tailored to their specific needs, ensuring it contains essential vitamins, minerals, and a good balance of proteins and carbohydrates. Remember, a cupcake or two won’t hurt on their birthdays, but don’t make it a daily treat!

Wagging Away the Years

In this section, we will dive into the world of exercise and uncover the tips and tricks to keep our furry companions fit, healthy, and living their best lives. So, grab a leash, put on your running shoes, and let’s unleash the secrets to pet longevity through exercise!

Few More Remarks

Breed-Specific Considerations

Different breeds have varying health concerns and lifespans. Research the specific needs and potential health issues associated with your pet’s breed, and tailor their care accordingly. This knowledge will help you make informed decisions regarding nutrition, exercise, and preventive measures.

Weight Management

Maintaining a healthy weight is vital for your pet’s overall well-being. Obesity can lead to numerous health problems and shorten their lifespan. Consult with your veterinarian to determine the appropriate diet and portion sizes for your pet’s breed, age, and activity level.

Recent studies showed that the normal-weight dogs of each breed had a lower risk of death over time (and thus a longer lifespan) compared to their overweight counterparts. The difference was most dramatic for the smaller breed dogs like the Yorkie. The estimated increased median lifespan of the normal-weight dogs over the overweight dogs ranged from 6 months to 2 years and 6 months, which is quite a bit of extra good quality time with your best friend!

Safety First

Protect your pet from potential hazards. Keep them away from toxic substances, ensure they have a safe and secure environment, and provide appropriate supervision, especially when outdoors. Minimizing risks and creating a safe space for your pet will help prevent accidents and health emergencies.

Remember, every pet is unique, and individual care requirements may vary. It’s important to be attentive to your pet’s specific needs, monitor their health, and provide a nurturing and loving environment. By incorporating these tips into your pet care routine, you can help ensure a long, happy, and healthy life for your beloved companion.

Easy healthy recipes of homemade food for pets

Porridge with turkey

To cook porridge with turkey you will need:

  •  2 lb of turkey (can be replaced with chicken);
  • 1/2 cup of round rice;
  • 1 large carrot;
  • 1 small zucchini;
  • 0.5 lb of pumpkin;
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil, greens.

Instructions:

  • Put turkey in a saucepan, cover with water, and cook on medium heat for 15 min.
  • While the meat is cooking, chop the vegetables.
  • Take out the cooked meat to a clean dish.
  • Put the rice in the broth and cook until tender.
  • Cut the turkey meat into small cubes.
  • Mix the meat with rice, add vegetables, oil and herbs.
  • Turn off the heat.

Vegetables practically do not undergo heat treatment in order to maintain maximum benefits. For this reason, they are sent to the pan last.

Let your furry friend enjoy it (in small positions).

Fish with oatmeal

Ingredients:

  • 100-150 g of salmon;
  • 1 cup of oatmeal;
  • 1 hard-boiled egg;
  • 2 tbsp of vegetable oil;
  • finely chopped dill and/or parsley.

Instructions:

  • Clean salmon from the skin and bones.
  • Cook in the skillet with a small amount of water on low heat.
  • Cook oatmeal until “porridge-smudge”.
  • Finely chop a hard-boiled egg.
  • Mix everything, add vegetable fat, and dill or parsley.

This dish can be cooked for future use and stored in bags in the freezer.

Treats from chicken hearts

What you need:

  • 500 g chicken hearts.

Instructions:

  • Wash the hearts under running water.
  • Cut them into 2, 4 or 6 pieces depending on the desired size of the treat.
  • Preheat the oven to 400F.
  • Cover a baking sheet with foil and place the hearts on it in a single layer.
  • Send the tray to the oven. Bake for 10 minutes, then remove.
  • In the process of baking, hearts emit a lot of unnecessary fat. Cover a baking sheet with clean foil and place the hearts in a single layer.
  • Pat them dry with a paper towel.
  • Reduce the temperature in the oven to 200F and bake the hearts for another 20 minutes.
  • If the hearts release a lot of fat again, repeat the procedure with clean foil.
  • Then cook additionally at 200F for another 35 minutes.
  • Remove the treat from the oven, place a plate and let it cool.

Tasty treats for your pets are ready!

Longevity drugs for pets, like LOY-001, are on the horizon, potentially influencing human medicine.

In our upcoming posts, we will publish new information on the health aspects and longevity of our beloved pets.

This website is dedicated to all aspects of longevity with educational and inspirational purposes only. Understanding of the biological basis of aging is important since it gives us ideas on how to slow down and, possibly, even reverse the changes in our bodies leading to aging and illnesses.

We accumulate so-called positive traits of old age during our whole life, such as knowledge, experience, wisdom, empathy, and freedom. Too late! We are approaching our time to die. However, it doesn’t need to be this way.

If you have an opportunity to live active life longer without pain, disease, or cognitive decline, would you? Imagine a possibility to enjoy and watch your family growing beyond grandchildren, travel the world, realize your skills and experience in something you always wanted to do down to perfection. Sounds not bad, does it?

Well, according to science, it is quite possible!

Where do you stand on your longevity?

Definitely, when it comes to our body and mind, everyone has a right to a personal choice on how to maintain health, treat the problems, or take steps for further improvement. We defined three different levels for longevity approaches depending on your condition (perfectly healthy or have pre-existing conditions), your goal (maintain or improve your health), and the complexity of life extension methods (easy, moderate, or advanced).

Level 1 – Simple

You can choose to maintain or improve your health by easy and cheap methods such as healthy eating, herb therapy, or general supplement arrangements (vitamins, minerals, etc.). You can find information on these methods in our “What Can You Do” Category or go to the “Anti-aging methods and techniques” page.

Level 2 – Moderate

If you wish to take a step further, you may consider IV therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or extreme fasting. You can find information on these methods in our “What Can You Do” Category or go to the “Anti-aging methods and techniques” page. The cutting-edge achievements can be found on the “News & information” page.

Level 3 – Advanced

At this level, you must be totally dedicated to your longevity and target the most advanced treatments toward lifespan extension (regenerative medicine such as stem cell treatment, cartilage regeneration, platelet-rich plasma therapy, prolotherapy, etc.). Most of these methods are being used now and show even greater promise for the future. “News & information” page.
